Beyond Emancipation_COVID19_Services

Amidst the COVID-19 crisis, young people need us more than ever.
Youth with experience in foster care and probation are far too accustomed to instability and matters outside their own control. The uncertainty and isolation of this crisis as well as the home environment for many of our youth is triggering.
B:E coaches are here to support youth through this difficult time.
We’re helping youth maintain their physical safety and mental health and access food, housing, education, and get the support they need.

Consider the Facts

Each year, nearly 5,000 foster youth in California emancipate from the foster care system. In Alameda County between 300-400 youth leave foster care annually. With little education, few job skills, and often physical and mental health concerns, Alameda County’s emancipated youth are at very high risk for homelessness, substance abuse, unintended pregnancy, and incarceration.

50%

Up to 50% of foster youth will experience homelessness at some point after leaving the system.

69%

Over 69% of youth leaving care become involved in the criminal justice system

47%

47% of youth leaving care are unable to obtain and maintain employment.

There are many ways you can help us provide services and programs to help former foster youth succeed.

Get Involved

Meet the Youth

Each year, B:E provides services and support to over 900 current and former foster youth in Alameda County. We invite you to meet few of them: young men and women who have risen above the significant challenges of life in foster care and begun to build lives full of possibilities. Read their stories here!
